Single Shard

In Single Shard we are at the point where Tree-ear sets off on his journey to Songdo. This shows that Tree-ear is brave one way he is brave is by going to this trip to places he has never been. Also I think Tree-ear is a caring person he might not show it all the time but deep down he is. One way he is caring is right before he was about to go on the journey he made sure Crane-man was feed this also leads me to the next characteristic. Tree-ear can also be a trickster because he tricks Crane-man into working for Ajima while he is gone this will make sure he is feed. I think Tree-ear also can be a little selfish because when he went up to Min to ask how to learn to make a pot he was really thinking about himself not Min. The way he was selfish was even though he is not Min son he was being rude behind Mins back and saying “who cares if I’m not your son!” On last characteristic for Tree-ear is creative one way he is creative. Even when Tree-ear on his journey was sitting by the fire just messing with a little clay he came up with a turtle shell. I think Tree-ear has many characteristics.

This I Believe

Posted on May 16th, 2012 in Uncategorized by allna1213

This I believe that everyone should have a passion. When I was 11 yrs. Old I was running in P.E and I tripped while running in a sewer and broke my foot. The next day I remember sitting in the waiting room when the nurse came in and said

“Ready for the cast?”

I really wanted to say no but I knew I could not

“Yes…”

After everything was done the doctor came back in just to make sure everything was right and she said

“No walking no playing any sports!”

As I looked up to her it looked like she was starting to become a blur to me as the tears came rolling down the side of my cheek. I knew that I was out of tennis for two months. It was too sad to think about it every time it came to my head more my eyes would blur up. My moms looked at me with a smile and said don’t worry after this everything will be alright but I knew that for that two month it was not going to be alright.

That night it was a Wednesday night and at Cherokee Town & country club it was pasta night! As I was walking in to those big doors I look back and see the courts where it all began I look up and pray that I will be out there soon! When I walked by the front desk I saw one of the workers who was a good friend of mine.

“ Allie I hear.”

And he looks down everyone had been laughing and telling me to come up with a better story then falling in a ditch and I broke my foot, and I knew the people who were going to do it the most were my friends at Cherokee.  As I walked in I saw some people that were on my tennis team and they ran up to me asking what happened but looking at then reminded me of looking at those courts so I looked at them and told them the story I had to get this whole tennis thing out of my head I needed to , or everything was going to get a lot worse.

The next day I had came to school with no signatures on my cast and when I left school I had a little more than 150

“I felt loved!”

I told my mom.

“Allie your not going to be happy about this” my mom told me

“What!”

“We have to go pick up your brother from UTA (a tennis program)  when I heard those words come out of her mouth I knew I could not  bear looking a those courts when it is misty and drizzling I always go out on the courts and just sit and look around and think of everything that is going on. When I am on the tennis court I feel something special like a relationship that you have with a pet. When we drove up my mom gets a phone call when I look at the caller I thought to myself could this day get any worse. It was my tennis coach calling my mom gave me the phone I looked at her with a confused look

“Its for you!” she told me.

“Hello?”

“Hey Allie I am calling to ask I you wanted to come watch your team play?”

As a team player I knew I could not say no but could I bear sitting next to the courts

As that say slowly arrived I drove up and saw my teammates as I crutched down there the most magical thing happened my team started to clap. I was trying to see what they were clapping for but then I saw all of their eyes on me. I was trying so hard to hold in the tears as a smile so big came on to my face. As my coach Frank comes over to help me over to the seating area by the court. As I sit and watch my team play I realize something. That my passion in life is tennis and I know I want to do it for the rest of my life. It also made me realize to always do your best and never give up on your dreams.  Frank saw something struck me and chuckled a little and smiled and told me

“it is good to have you back!”

This I believe that everyone should have a passion.

Single Shard

I think so far Single Shard has two main themes. One of them I think is friendship because when Crane-man took Tree-ear to take care of. The second theme is determination. An example of determination in this book is when Tree-ear wants to work for Min he is determined to get the job. I also think that caring could be a theme in this book because Tree-ear helps Crane-man for example the time he gave him the coat to keep Crane-Man warm. I think Tree-ear is a very unique person. One reason I say that is because he can be all caring and sweet, but and can also be greedy in some ways. One way he is greedy is when he picks some of the rice before asking in the beginning of the book. I think this books emotions have gone from happy to sad to determined and many others. So far reading this book you never know what the emotion or the theme will be that is why I think there are many themes in this book.

Using Macs!

Posted on May 8th, 2012 in Uncategorized by allna1213

Next year I will be a six grader! We will be using a Macbook air there are many reasons why I am excited. One reason is that I use macs at home so I feel more comfortable with a Macbook airs then I do with PC. Also I will be able to do my homework on my new mac (since my mac laptop at home is almost broken.) I’m excited about using Macbook airs next year because I will be able to have my own computer to do all of my school work on it. Also I am glad that we can also use it at home as well. It is going affect my learning because I will be more excited about doing everything on my mac laptop. Something that I want to try next year on my new Macbook air laptop is trying to see if using MacBook airs will help me learn.

Red Rose Nitrogen bullet

Posted on April 12th, 2012 in Uncategorized by allna1213

This is a picture of an air-rifle bullet going through a rose that has been socked in nitrogen and was flash frozen. The reason I choose this picture was because how the picture was taking and what it looked like, it looked like glass because how it was flash frozen. I have always been very interested in photography. It makes me feel like the most valuable thing in the world has just been destroyed. Photography is supposed to make you feel something maybe different then the picture really is, that is why photography is so interesting on how any simple picture can change what you think and feel. That is why I choose this picture.

Like a high-speed arrow, an air-rifle pellet pierces the heart of a rose at some 800 feet per second. The flower, plunked form garden and flash frozen in liquid nitrogen, shatters in a spray of petal fragments.

Women Play More or Paid Less in Tennis?

Posted on April 11th, 2012 in Uncategorized by allna1213

In professional women’s tennis they play best out of three sets in tennis grand slams. However men play best out of five sets. Women and men almost get paid the same amount in tennis grand slams.  I think that if they are going to get paid the same amount play the same amount. I think women now need to be paid a lower amount then men if they are going to play a lower amount. Either men should play best out of three sets or women should play best out of five sets. I think the USTA (United States Tennis Association) should make the game of tennis fair. I think women should play less but not get paid the same amount then men.

Many people think it is totally fair for women to play less than men, and be paid the same amount. They think it is fair because men can play longer than women. I could argue that women can play for that long tennis so let them play longer then they can be paid the same amount then it would be fair, tennis is a sport of fairness.  Also people think that women work hard enough to be paid the same amount. I could argue even though I am a women tennis player I still think men should be appreciated since they play more. Some people think that they don’t work hard enough. I think they do work hard but not nearly as much as men do. If they don’t play the same amount why get paid the same amount.

Values Parcoe Activity

Posted on March 1st, 2012 in Uncategorized by allna1213

In values class we did an activity on what it would be like being in a business. We were split up into teams and we had to make “parcoes”

In my team we decided to have a CEO and sales person and then workers. It was a lot of fun I had never experienced what it would be like to be a worker for a company. In my group we had a good idea that to cut out the squares faster we would get a piece of paper and draw lines then make them into squares and made sure they were the right size then we colored them all together this made the process go a lot faster. Then we cut them all out and there we had a lot of squares. Then also in my group we decided to make a perfect rectangle for the base then we would just copy off of that. It worked for a while but then we were running out of paper to measure them on so we had to guess our self’s. Then when we brought them to the “bank” they were starting to be too short. But my group pulled together even though we did not get as many parcoes as we would of liked we still had great teamwork. I think this values lesson was not only to see how it felt to be a business worker but teamwork and responsibility. I thought this values lesson was a great learning experience and a lot of fun!

Broken Foot

Posted on February 18th, 2012 in Uncategorized by allna1213

This is how I broke my foot…

We were out on the field during P.E playing capture the flag. The other team had all of the other footballs except one. In one blink one of my classmates on the other team had gotten the football he was running on the side I was on the only person who was left to stop him was me… I knew I had to do it for my team so I started to run as fast as I could as I was getting super close to him I knew I could get him he was so close! As I reach my hand out not playing attention about the field and the (drains!) My hand is so close when I reached out to get him I feel in the drain the drain has caught my shoe. In so much pain I still stood up (and got him!!!) YAYAYAY! As I was proud of myself I collapsed to the ground in pain. My friend on my team ran over to me (thank you!) As she took me to the nurse it was getting more swollen and swollen and more painful. The nurse knew something was wrong and the next day I woke up with my bone sticking out (grouse but not out of my skin.) As that day I was going to the doctor for a x-ray. As my mom and I sitting in the little room waiting for the news. The doctor comes in to my room with a pale face. “Umm sadly she has a hairline fractior” she mumbled. Right as I heard those words come out of her mouth I admiletly was crushed. “She may not walk on it for a whole month! then she will come back and we will see how it is.” After she left to give us sometime right as that door closed I started to ball. My life was over for a whole month no running at recess with my friends. The thing that I was most sad about it, I could not go to my home the tennis court. I could not play tennis. After getting a neon green cast I was driving home. As I was driving back we passed the place where I play tennis watching that fly by the tears came back in to my mind…
