This is my final post about architecture and what I learned during the QUEST paper! This whole QUEST project has taught me a lot about houses and blueprints. First, one interesting fact that I learned was that CAD computer software can draw blueprints in 3D and can make them in color. Also, CAD can make many different copies of the house that you design.
What I leaerned about myself as a student during this process is that I am good at planinng out my time and using it effectively. I know this because when I made my notecards I planned out my time so I did about 3-5 a day. When they were due I had a little more than the teachers were expecting from everyone. One thing that I learned about myself as a person was that I am organized and I really am intersted in architecture and putting things together.
In future assignments that are similar to this, something that I will change about the way that we did this was the notecards. I think that we should not do one fact on each notecard. I think that after all of them where done it got a little overwhelming for me and other people. When everyone was looking at them they we like oh, no. There is a lot of writing coming up…
Some skills that I will keep with me throught next year that I learned during this project, are the time management and orginization skills. Time managemant really helped me have all my information pieces on time and ready to go. Orginization helped me keep all my materials ready for when I needed to use them. I think that these skills will really help me in middle school for all projects and long- term homework assignments.

In class recently, we have been taking our notecards and putting them together into paragraphs. My whole paper is pretty long- about 2 whole pages. The first paragrph is the introduction and it is little fact on blueprints. The second paragraph is about what blueprints are and why they are important. The next one is about how technology has improved blueprints, and the fourth one is about architecture of homes. The final paragraph is the conclusion which sums all my information up.
Anoher thing that we have been doing is start to think about our Capstone project, and meet our mentor. A couple days ago we all recieved packets about Capstone, and we all have to fill out a page about our ideas for our project by tomorrow (4/20). One idea that I have is creating my own blueprint with my mentor. Speaking of mentors we all got to meet ours via email! My mentor is the person who built this Trinity School. Hopefully I will here back from him soon!

Over the last two weeks we have been finding information about our topic and have been putting one fact on a notecard. Today in class we started puting our notecards togather into our rough draft powergraph. First, we wrote out theseus statement and our main focus sentences on notecards. A theseus statement is a sentence that explains what your whole topic is about. The topic sentences are basically our focus questions but not questions.
Next, we laid out all of our notecards and put the power 2′s at the top. Then we put all the power 3′s under them- realating to the topic of each one. Once we did that, we numbered everyone starting at one and going, for me, to 37. Later when we have time, we will write our rough draft, just simply starting with number one and going to 37.

If you enjoy modern day architectural styles, here are some that I found on one of my sources- yc315.org. Many of these styles are used by architects today and a majority of them help the enviroment.
One of these styles is Eco-friendly designs. Builders use this because they are concerend about the environment so they are geared to sustainable materials. Another style is builders are prefabricating homes which is the big parts of the house are shipped to the building site. Doing this, builders can build homes faster, and with good quality.
Another stylem that builders are using today is reusing old home structures. Builders do this because they are concerned about the environment, so they find ways to use these structures in the new house. The last two styles are having more family rooms and porches and having acessible home designs. Having more family rooms allows families to hang out together and bond with eachother. Acessible home designs allows the home owners to move around more easily in the house.
Many of these styles help you make a more comfortable and more environmental-friendly house. You can read more about these styles at http://www.yc315.org/popular-styles-of-home-architecture-today.html Have a good time, and I hope you learn a lot!!!! Thanks!!!

When I went on one of my websites- Plan and build a house.com, I found really interesting information when you click on the architectureal symbols.
One thing that caught my eye was that architects use these symbols in architecture to communicate quickly and clearly. Just like the alphabet in English, symbols in architecture are used like and alphabet, an alphabet of lines and drawings. Some lines are thicker representing different measurements and objects. In a construction plan, dashed lines can mean many things. One of the types of dashed lines, a hidden line, is used to show the edges of an object that wouldn’t be shown in the plans normally. Another type, Phantom Lines, are used to show the overhead construction that is important to the project.
Another good tip for when you are making a floor plan, is add a lot of windows to allow natural light to flow into the house which will reduce the electrical bill. Doing this will also help the earth stay clean and healthy, by not using a lot of energy. Another tip is to buy a lot of paper, if you are drawing your plans, to allow yourselve room for mistakes.
There are many different symbols used in architecture not just some of the ones that I explained. You can read more about these symbols by going to http://www.plan-and-build-a-house.com/architectural-symbols.html#ixzz1qQL38ZaO. Good luck!

During the process of starting this research paper, the sixth graders needed to get
internet and book sources for our topics. When I was looking for sources, I had
trouble trying to find a book. When I looked in the library at my school, I
only found books that were too young for my age or books that weren’t focusing
on my topic. When I went home and looked in magazines, I only found information
that was about certain buildings and the ways people liked to build their
houses. Finally, I found an article about blueprints that really went along
with my focus questions (see Research page). The article was from world book encyclopedia and it really supplied me with information to help me answer some of the questions.
Something thatsurprised me when I was looking for websites and good information, were that so many people are interested in architecture. Also, many websites have house plans that you can pick from for your house and sometimes you can design them yourselves. After you pick which one you want, you tell the website and they will send it to you in the mail, usually for a low price. After you get the plans, you can meet with an architect and start to get ready to build your house.
There are many questions that have popped into my head during this first step of the research process. One is why does it take so long to build a house? I ask this because I know that you have to do many things in order to finish a house, but why does
it take so long? Another question that I have is how do you know when you have
found a good and reliable architect to build your house? How do you know if he (or
she) is properly trained as an architect? Many of these questions and more have
popped into my head as I have looked for resources. Seeing these things have made me want to get more involved in my topic about architecture.
