Homeless Bird post
Koly adapts to her surroundings great. She does this by never giving up hope and always
thinking that it could get better. Also she doesn’t think she’s at the worse
level to be at and nobody likes or loves her. Koly also adapts by making
friends. Koly made friends with Raji and Raji took Koly to Maa Kamala’s place. Then
she made friends with a girl named Tanu. Koly and Tanu then share a room
together when they were in and when they moved out of Maa Kamala’s house.
The theme of this book so far is determination. One quote to support my answer is, I could
not keep myself from returning to the railway station. I did not really believe
I would ever see Sass again; still, I could not help hoping that she would come
back. Another example is, I stitched a picture of our little room, dancing in
the rain, and having our baths at the well. I even put in the cow and the
bandicoot. I had to squeeze in time for the quilt, for there was much to do.
A Literary device that is used in the book is; similes. One example is the bird in
Tagore’s poems. Koly was for a time, homeless. The bird in Tagore’s poems is
homeless. Another example used in the book is, the chained monkey. Koly is
chained down by Sass’s scolding. The monkey is chained down by a metal chain.
The last example is a caged animal. The animal rushes about looking for an
opening that’s not there. That’s how Koly feels at the end of chapter one.
