Dad’s 50th

I’m pretty sure that my father would not approve of me letting the world know that he is fifty this week, but I thought I would let you know. You see, to dad he turns 32 every year. Well, to me 32 is NOT  any younger than 50 so I don’t get the point. This year was different. He decided to except 50 years. Sort of. We kind of told him he would have to except his old age sometime and this year was the day. I don’t see the big deal with 50. Your half way to 100! YAY! Why not 40? MAybe it was a big deal. I was only 1 years old when my parents turned 40 so I don’t know. Anyway, for my dad’s birthday we gave him breakfast in bed. (Eggs, bacon, grits, fruit ect.)  Of course that made me really late for school this morning. That and my sister spent like 5 hours looking for her wallet which was right in front of her face! My parents went to a movie the afternoon of his birthday then out to dinner. My sister and I made a cake for him. He likes yellow cake and chocolate icing. That’s my dad’s birthday!

P.S Can you count how many possessive nouns there are and how many pluraul nouns there are? If you can comment with your answer!

Wordly Wise Story

I can’t wait! I’m getting my drivers license today! The man giving me the test is superb! When I was driving along the road I got distracted by all the pollution and almost crashed! The car in front of me had to swivel so we didn’t collide! My superb test giver looked at me with crossed arms and then started writing things down on a piece of paper on a clip board. I would be mad if my student put my life in jeopardy. The lady I almost crashed into got out of her car looking at me. She had a phone up to her mouth and was screaming into it! Uh-oh! The next thing I knew a police man was hovering a ticket over my head.  I needed to elude the area fast! I put the car in gear and floored it! The ground under the tires must have been very flammable! I finally attained my location.

Yard Sale This Weekend

This weekend I had a yard sale! I know that’s not very exciting for most people but for me it was. My mom was up from dawn until dusk working on it. Well, technically she got four hours of sleep but I’ve heard that saying a lot in books and wanted to use it. We sole almost everything we put out there and we made $127! My favorite part of the sale was when I saw a little girl walking away hugging my firs Webkinz! I knew it would be well loved. Also, today I finished The Titan’s Curse in the Percy Jackson series. I bet most everyone has read it but if you haven’t I highly recommend it! The Titan’s Curse is about Thalia, Annabeth, Percy, Binica, Zoe, and Grover’s adventure to find Lady  Artimis. (Sorry for spelling almost all the names wrong!) Really only Zoe Nightshade is look for Artimis. Percy is looking for Annabeth because he believes… well I don’t want to give away any information so I’ll just say he’s looking for Annabeth. Thalia Binica is trying to prove herself to Zoe that she can be a hunter. Grover is secretly looking for Pan and finds some hints along the way and Thalia is just on for the ride. There is a funny and romantic twist in the story and I loved it! I would love to hear about you weekend so plese leave a coment on my blog :)

Mesopotamia Projects

I am doing Hammurabi’s Code and learning a lot of the laws. My essential question is “Were the laws fair back then according to the laws today?” I wanted to study the code for many reasons. I want to learn about both of the laws (Hammurabi’s and ours) and see if their  laws are really well put and fair. I know that not everybody is happy with the laws now. I also know not everybody was happy with the laws then. I want to put my opinion in and see if I lived when Hammurabi ruled if I would be as happy as I am with the laws now.

I learned that the laws are not fair but they are not unfair either. They are just complicated and specific. For example, one law says “If a man is accused and goes and jumps in a river and sinks the man that accused him shall get his house. But, if the man in the river is found not guilty and was not harmed in the river then he shall get the man’s house that accused him and put that man to death. That is very specific and it’s not unfair or fair.If that exact thing happened then that rule would be fair. The only thing that is not fair is stated in almost every law, “And he shall be put to death.” It makes me wonder if jail existed back then. I don’t think it did because if it did then that should be the choice of punishment, not death. So, if I lived when Hammurabi ruled then I would not be as happy as I am now because (in my opinion) the laws are very specific and if they weren’t so specific then they would not have to have 300 laws.

I am very proud of my project. I have learned so much about Hammurabi’s Code. I am a little upset that I did not learn why Hammurabi made such strict laws . I did really learn a lot about the laws though, I have even learned some by heart. For my physical project I am doing a big poster board of four laws and an illustration of each law. I am glad to know so much about the laws and how they changed our lives.
