This I Believe
Life throws many situations at you and what you do with those is your choice. When that happens, I believe that you should just go with it. Whether you’re giving a speech or just hanging with your friends, just go with it and do what feels natural.
My acting instructor, Ms. Merrideth, always tells the class to “just go with it.” When the day of the performance comes and you forget the dance or line, just do what feels right and just go with it. I experienced a situation like this in a musical called Mulan JR. I was on stage and doing a scene where the general’s father had just died and all these thoughts were running through my head. When should I go on stage? What is my next scene? Do I need to change my costume? As these questions were running through my head I was trying to rapidly answer them. I was so worried that I was the last person to exit the stage. As soon as I got off I went to change into my costume for the final bow, but I had forgotten about a scene. I didn’t have enough time to change back into my correct costume and in the back of my head I could hear Ms. Merrideth’s voice saying “Emily, just go with it” so I pulled myself together and got in line with all the other soldiers and marched on stage proudly. As I was walking out I noticed that I wasn’t the only one in the wrong costume. Another girl, three people ahead of me, was also wearing the wrong costume. At that very moment I realized that perfection doesn’t matter and that the audience doesn’t know what you’re supposed to be wearing; only you and the other actors know. That goes to show if you roll with the punches, just go with it, or go with the flow you will get farther in life. Rather than trying to perfect everything because you will be working on the same thing for the rest of your life.
MacBook Airs
As you may know next year all sixth graders are getting there own personal MacBook Airs. I am really looking forward too this opportunity and experience since my family hasn’t switched to Macs yet. I feel like with the Macs they will help all the students with either homework or their research. Since you will always have it on you and you can just pull it out and look something. I also think that having a Mac will help me with my blogging and research. Next year I hope to be a better blogger, and also write more posts. the only down side to getting a Mac is that you can’t run some programs that you can run on Windows.
musicals are better than any other way of entertainment
Every year theaters all over America produce thousands of musicals and plays. Each and every one of those productions tells a story with an important moral. The stories plot can change depending on the way it is put on. It can be happy, sad, scary, funny, or just flat out serious.
Musicals are great and entertaining for many different ways like; if you are the type of person who likes to show off your talents then musicals are right for you. I say this because in musicals you have a chance to show off all your talents, like singing, dancing or even singing and dancing. During musical you get many chances to work with large groups. You might work with a group on a dance number, your blocking, or on your lyrics. Madeline Langley, a current student at Trinity school, states that musicals show more emotion than plays. She says this because when you have a plot and you tell the plot just through dialog there is less feeling to the play. Whereas all musicals show most of the emotion and feeling through dialog, singing, and dancing. This is just three examples of why musicals are more entertaining than any other way of entertainment.
Many people might argue that this statement is false. Some people might say plays are easier, since not everybody has a beautiful singing voice or some people have trouble with dancing that plays are easier to perform. But when you put on a play you also have to memories all of your dialog and blocking. Other people prefer not to dress up nicely and go see a fancy show. Whereas some people love going shopping for a new outfit and then going out and show it off at a production. Some people as an audience prefer plays or movies because the plot is easier to follow sense there is only dialog. Other audience types may like musicals better because there is more action.
So whether you agree or disagree, go out there and get tickets to any type of entertainment.
Tech Lab Getting a New Look
At Trinity School in Atlanta Georgia, the Technology Lab is gaining a fresh start. Trinity School was built in 2000 it is now 2012 and Trinity is seeking a change. Recently most of Trinity’s computers have been replaced with Apple products and now decided that their technology lab should be more modern. The school is planning for the construction to be finished by August 10, 2012.
The plan for the design includes a comfortable area where students can work together and a work space where students and teachers can work independently. In the working area they are pondering about putting in tables, countertops, and, desks ,and in the comfortable workspace they are considering whiteboard paint on the walls where the kids can write down all of their ideas with Expo Markers. There also maybe beanbags where the kids can work while at a calm state of mind. They are going to remove everything except for the Apple computers. Mrs. Harris, the technology teacher, believes that, “the redesigning of the tech lab will give the students and teachers a chance to come together and hang out and work with each other. The tech lab will be more like a learning center than a technology lab.”
Mr. Kennedy, Trinity’s Head Master, exclaims “We hope that the tech lab will allow more collaboration, encourage more creativity, and spark new ideas.” The idea of the redesigning was Mr. Morrison, the Head of Technology, and Mr. Kennedy’s. They believe that 21st century learning means 21st century designs.
Trinity is modernizing their tech lab to go along with the modern computers. All of the teachers and staff believe that the changing of the technology lab will affect the students in a positive way.

Homeless Bird
During Homeless Bird a girl named Koly goes on one big adventure and travels many places. Every time she arrives to a new place she has to adapt to her surroundings. I think the way Koly adapts is by getting to know some of the people around her who live in the city Koly is in, then she uses those people to help her find her way around and she asked them questions like: “Where can I stay?”, “How can I get a job?”, “Have you seen my sass?”, “Where can I work?”, or “How did you come here?” Koly lives a sad life and she tries to make the best out of every situation. I think that how she does it is by finding one person that is kind to her and wants to be her friend. One example is her sister in law, Chandra. While Koly is living with her husband’s family she meets Chandra. Chandra is very kind to Koly and even shares a room with Koly, Chandra also sneaks food to give to Koly. She does that because Koly’s sass doesn’t feed her a lot of food. Almost every night they talk right before they go to bed, like one night Koly talked to Chandra about her new husband. I think that Koly also finds one thing to look forward to at the end of every day. Like her quilt or her signed copy of Tagore’s Poems.
Throughout the whole book I think that there are two main themes. I think that that theme is independence because once Koly leaves her house and her family she no longer has them to help her and she has to take care of herself on her own. One example is when she goes back to the office were she first got her widows pension and talks to the man that gave Koly her pension and asked to go and get it given to her every month by hand, but he says no. I think that shows independence because she stood up for herself and worked to try to get her pension back. I think that another theme might be that Koly always looks at a glass half full. For example when Koly goes and lives with the Mehtas she relies that she is like a servant to them and does all their dirty work, just like an untouchable in the caste system. While she is there she always is looking forward to something, smiling and trying to stay happy even though half of the Mehtas die.
I think that Gloria Whelan, the author of Homeless Bird, uses literary devices to describe Koly’s terrible situations and people. One example of a literary devise that describes one of Koly’s terrible situation is; “I felt like a newly caged animal that rushes about looking for the open door that isn’t there.” Another example of a literary device that describes one of the people that Koly meets is “The mustache is like a mouse’s tail.” I don’t think that there is one comparison that Gloria Whelan uses throughout the whole book, but I do think that she often takes Koly’s life and her situations and compares it to an animal’s life and what they do. Over all I think that Gloria Whelan must have had a very sad and tragic life to write such a sad book.
Gift of Time
For my gift of time I went to a soup kitchen with some kids I go to church with and served Christmas dinner to homeless people. There were so many jobs to do like serving the food, refilling the pitchers of water and putting them back on the tables, resetting the tables, and taking the guests’ ticket. We also made turkey, collard greens, sweet potatoes, stuffing, and fresh fruit. For dessert we served lots of sweet cakes and pies. When the guests walked in they all looked so happy. After we all served the first group of people we reset the tables and got ready for the second group. Then the second group came in and ate and when they were finished eating we cleaned off the tables and then two other kids and I counted all the tickets and found out that we served 261 people. After we were finished I felt really good about what I just did.

Slice of Life
“Are you ready Burke!”? I screamed over the rumbling of my Aunt Larkin’s boat that was about to start going as fast as it could possibly go. “Yupp” he yelled as her boat stated to move. “Are you sure you’re not a bit scared?” I screamed at the top of my lungs as the boat got faster. “Not even a little bit!” he screamed even louder back to me over the happy screams and laughs of my other cousins.
I was at my family reunion in Alabama. Every two years I would get together with my mom’s side of the family either on Labor day or Memorial Day. It was a four hour car ride there but it always felt like it was a nineteen hour car ride. It feels like nineteen hours because I am always so excited to see my relatives and to get out of the car that was filled with what feels like every thing my family and I own. I was so excited to see my cousin “Bob”. My cousins and I had made up boy names for each other. We don’t call each other our real names, but we are all girls.
When we got there, we all sprinted to the dock. The smell of wet dog and ice tea got stronger and stronger as I got closer and closer to the dock. My brother Will and I ran to meet our cousins. Our parents were behind us. Will leaned over and whispered, “ Why are they walking so slow? Are they not excited?” I replied, “Will, I really don’t know?” When we got to the dock, Will and I swam with all of our cousins. I swam with my two girl cousins and Will swam with all the boys. My cousins and I swam to a spot where a bunch of jagged rocks stuck up out of the water. Then we jumped onto the rocks and hopped rock to rock until we got close enough to hop onto an island. We hopped on to the island. I had gotten so used to the smell of wet dog and iced tea, when I got on the island it felt weird that I didn’t smell all of that any more I smelled dirt. Right as we were about to run to a rope swing and swing on it, we herd my Aunt Larkin scream “ HEY WHO WANTS TO RIDE ON SUPER MABLE”. Super Mable is a flat circle that has a back rest and handles that you pull behind a boat. We quickly swam back to the dock. Then everybody replied ” YOU BET WE DO”. We got on the boat and it started moving. Then it got faster and faster and faster and faster.
We had ridden Super Mable about twenty-five times and each time got more and more fun. Going to Alabama to see all my aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousin is my favorite thing that I do every summer.
