New MacBook Airs

9 05 2012

Next year I will be a sixth grader! We get our own MacBook Airs for class work and homework. I think that it will be very different but MacBooks are cool. There is so much to learn about them and they are like no other computer. It will effect my learning because I will have to be able to not get distracted in class. Also, I will be able to organize my work. I am going to try to keep my computer organized and to not loose any class work. Also, I want to try out all of the apps on the dock. I think I am going to enjoy having my own computer.

Photo Journalism

24 04 2012

When I looked at this photo I saw a ship that had run aground. When I looked closer I saw a ship that had sunk. The ship looks rusty like old metal. I wondered if the ship would blow up because it is an oil tanker. Also, I wondered if the oil in the ship was leaking. I worry about the wild life and the surrounding habitat. Lastly, I wonder how this enormous ship will be removed from our environment.

A relic of the Iran-Iraq war, this oil tanker was scuttled near the Kuwait- Iraq border on Saddam Hussein’s orders, to block access by sea to southern Iraq. Kuwaiti authorities are reluctant to remove the vessel for fear of damaging the wetlands of nearby Bubiyan Island, an important fish nursery and seabird breeding ground.

Wordly Wise Lesson 14 Story

19 04 2012

Once upon a time there was a benevolent girl who lived in Atlanta, Georgia. She had a tennis tournament this weekend and she promised to trying her best. She exaggerated and said that she was going to win the whole tournament.

She was on a mission to get to the tournament when she saw a stray dog in the middle of the road. This was her opportunity to provide help. It was marvelous to see the dog interact with her in such a positive way. It intrigued her to help needy animals. She was discreet about her fantastic effort that she made on helping the dog. Because she stopped to help the dog, she relinquished her chance to play in the tournament. For the rest of her life she was esteemed for helping needy animals.

1 Element in Homeless Bird

17 01 2012

There are many different elements in Homeless Bird.

The first element is character:          Koly, she is a 13 year old girl who lives in India. She gets married to a guy that was way younger than her and he was super sick. Once her husband dies she becomes a widow.          Hari, is a young boy who gets married to Koly. He was very ill and needed to go to the Ganges River to get blessed. When he was there in Varanasi he died and was turned into ashes to get put in the Ganges.         Sass, she is Hari’s mother, and she took Hari to the Ganges River along with Sassur and Koly.       Sassur, he is Hari’s father who joined the group on going to the Ganges.

Gift of Time #2

3 01 2012

My friend sent me an e-mail a few weeks ago and invited me to make bagged lunches for soldiers traveling through the Atlanta airport during the holidays. Of course I said “yes”! I thought it was a great idea because we’ve been learning about giving the gift of time to other people!

I went over to her house today knowing and thinking that I was giving the gift of time to not just one person, I was giving the gift of time to two hundred people! I walked into her house and I saw a couple of other girls decorating brown bags that said: “Thank you for Serving for Us”. I walked over to the table and my friend greeted me and said “Kate, right now we are decorating the bags that the lunches will go in!” So I decorated bags and then we went to the dining room to make the sandwiches. We put a sandwich, a bag of chips, a napkin, an orange and a cookie in each bag!

That is what we did for a while. Then, we had lunch and played Just Dance 3 on her Wii. Finally, I left and I told myself that I did a really good thing!

These 200 bagged lunches will be delivered to the Atlanta airport tomorrow morning for the soldiers.

The End!

My Gift of Time!

1 01 2012

For my Gift of  Time project I washed my neighbor’s car. She is an elderly lady and she said that she had not washed the inside of her car in years! So I decided that I wanted to wash her car for my Gift of  Time. The car was full of dog hair from her Golden Retriever Leo, leaves, lolly pops, and lots of trash.  This is what I did to clean the car: I scrubbed all of the windows inside and out with Windex, I vacuumed the inside of the car, my mom washed a blanket that had dog hair all over it, I scrubbed the tires multiple times, I washed the outside of the car with soap and water. I did almost everything you can think of to make the car clean! I am planning on doing more but that’s the first thing I’ve done to give the Gift of Time!

Nine Hours of Torture

27 11 2011

Yesterday my family and I drove from Anna Maria Island, Flordia all the way to Atlanta, Georgia. The first thing my sister and I did was watch the Justin Bieber Movie! I love that movie. It makes me cry because I want to meet him so badly.  Then, I talked to my family, played on my itouch, and did some math that I missed in class. Next, my sister said, “I want a smoothie!” So my mom said, “okay we can get one at McDonald’s.” After a couple exits we finally found a McDonald’s. My dad went through the drive through while we walked around and stretched. We got back into the car and my dad said, ”the smoothie machine is broken!” Then my mom said, “then what did you order them… milkshakes?” And my dad said,”of course.” So we enjoyed our milkshakes and kept driving. After that, I watched another movie, I studied more, then I played on my itouch. I tried to fall asleep in the dark but I couldn’t so I played on my itouch the rest of the way home. I’m so glad I’m out of that car!

A Dolphin Quest

22 11 2011

This morning  in Florida it was beautiful and calm. I was standing on our porch looking out towards the water. My mom saw a splash but she didn’t know what it was so I looked closely and I said “dolphin!” My mom, my sister Daisy, and I ran to the beach as fast as we could to see the dolphin. Our kayaks were right beside us. My mom yelled, “let’s get in the boat!” I persuaded my dad to come with me on the kayak and he did. We hopped into the boat and we were off, paddling as hard as we could. I thought I was going to pass out, but I didn’t. We paddled until the dolphin were in between my mom’s boat and ours, about 10 feet away. We watched them splash, surface, go under the boat, and play for about fifteen minutes. That was our dolphin quest.

The Beach

19 11 2011

Yesterday I got on a flight to the beach for Thanksgiving. This morning, I woke up, ate a blueberry muffin and went outside. I saw my mom talking to ”our” blue heron named Blueberry. My mom offered Blueberry some coffee but he/she didn’t want any. Right now the ospreys are fishing!  Also, it’s my little sister’s stuffed animal’s (Princess) Birthday.     Ha ha ha ha ha

I’ll try to post more later about our trip!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Halloween

10 11 2011

For Halloween I was supposed to dress up as Lady Gaga but it was too cold outside to wear that so I dressed up as a dude. That day my family set up for our annual Halloween Party! At our party we ate pizza and talked to neighborhood friends. But when it started to get dark outside my friend and I left to go get some candy. We went to my adopted grandmother’s house first. She was so excited and so was her dog, Leo! She gave us a handful of candy and said “Bye kids, have fun!” And on we went… we Trick-Or-Treated on more than two streets and got over one hundred pieces of candy! Now my candy is almost gone with help from my dad and my swim coach, Nate! Nate keeps asking the team for more Milk Duds, and I don’t have any more!

That was my Halloween!
