Weekly Update #8

3 11 2011

Last week we had a halloween party in Mrs. Carter’s class! We played a game called Trick-or-Treat where someone picked a card that either said Trick or Treat and if you picked a card that said Treat then you got to go to pick a prize. If you picked a Trick card then you have to do the chalenge enthusiasticly, and if you do it enthusiasticly then you get a prize.

This week in Mrs. Carter’s class we didn’t have school on Monday because it was halloween! I got 104 peices of candy and I trick-or-Treated on two streets with Cole! We do not have any tests this week either. Today we are going to visit with Carmen Deedy, and we are going to do more tryouts for the Nutcracker.

Next week in Mrs. Carter’s class our Wordly Wise project is due Monday. We have an Wordly Wise test on Tuesday. On Wednesday we are going to the High Museum on a feild trip. That is three weeks of my life as a fith grader!

Grand Day

26 10 2011

A couple of weeks ago we had Grand Day at Trinity School. For Grand Day my mom came as my special friend instead of one of my grandparents coming. First, I showed my mom around our classroom and we looked at the poem that I made on the bulletin board outside of our classroom. My poem was called ”Full Moon” and I made a watercolor to go with it. Then, as a whole class, we played Three Truths and a Lie about our grands or special friends. This is how you play: you take a piece of paper or a flash card and write three truths and a lie in any order on your piece of paper. Then, someone stands up and reads aloud their three truths and a lie. Next, someone tries to guess the lie and if they are right then you say “correct” or “yes” and if they are wrong then you can call on a different person. After we played Three Truths and a Lie it was time for my mom and the grandparents to go home.

That is what we did at Grand Day!

Wordly Wise Lesson #5

19 10 2011

Once upon a time there was a pretty, rich, 25 year old woman whose name was Allie and she loved going to parties and weddings. She was very deft at picking out clothes  and she loved getting attired. A couple days ago she went to her best friend Sarah’s wedding. Allie was very tentative about what she was going to wear but finally she picked out her long purple Valentino dress and her new versatile sparkly Stilettos.  Then, she noticed that she was going to be late. ”Oh no” she said as she hopped into her pink limo and sat down. She had great posture when she sat down on the leather seat of the limo. Allie looked quit captivating at the wedding.

Paragraph #3

14 10 2011

I really enjoyed learning about ‘Ram in a Thicket’. It is a very cool sculpture and I really hope I see it one day at the British Museum. I learned that there were two ’Ram in a Thicket’s and they think they were table legs. The project went well because the information was easy to find.  What didn’t go well was that I had to find the perfect information to go on my physical project but at the end of the day it turned out to be a good project. I really enjoyed learning about Ancient Mesopotamia.

Paragraph 2 of 3

12 10 2011

Here are some facts I learned when I studied ‘Ram in a Thicket’. ‘Ram in a Thicket’ is about the biblical story of Abraham sacrificing a ram for God. It depicts a goat eating the leaves of a tree. The ram’s head and legs are covered in gold leaf, its ears are copper (now they are green),  the ram’s twisted horns and the fleece on its shoulders are made of lapis lazuli, and the fleece on its body is made of shell. The tree is covered in gold leaves and golden flowers. This sculpture is supported on a small rectangular base decorated with a mosaic of shells, red limestone and lapis lazuli. These are some facts I learned about ‘Ram in a Thicket.’

Famous Mesopotamian Arts

11 10 2011

”Why are Mesopotamian arts famous?” I chose to study famous  Mesopotamian arts because I thought it would be cool and exciting to study something so ancient. Also, I wanted to study the sculptures, especially the ”Ram in a Thicket.” It is a sculpture of the ram that Abraham sacrificed for God instead of sacrificing his Son. I also thought it was fascinating that some of the copper on it had turned green. That’s why I chose to study famous Mesopotamian arts.

Wordly Wise Story 4

6 10 2011

Once upon a time there was a princess named Glenda. Glenda was in  jeopardy for pushing her dad (the King) out of an aloft hot air balloon, which was inflated with helium. They were about 5,000 feet off the ground and Glenda pushed the king off. “Whoosh”, the king was plummeting through the air like a ball falling through the sky. Then, when he hit the ground he was very stationary… he was dead. After Glenda killed her dad, everybody disliked her very much. They locked her in a tower with a maid as her servant. The maid would make her bed and go get  food for her. One day everyone found out that the tower that Glenda was in was very flammable because it easily caught on fire while the maid was cooking. Glenda and her maid were very elusive and got out of the tower without getting burned, but they had to jump off of the balcony that was very high off of the ground. There was no one around to help them so they died.   The End
