Mesopotamian Pottery

My essential question is “Why did the Mesopotamians make pottery?” I picked this topic because I love art and I love being creative. Also, I picked this topic because I could make pottery for my physical project. I have learned why the Mesopotamians made pottery and they did for many different reasons.

I learned much about Mesopotamian pottery, how they made it, what they used to carve it, and what it was used for. The Mesopotamians used bone, teeth, shells, metal, rocks, and sharp sticks to carve things in to the pottery like designs and sometimes stories. The pottery was used for holding liquids but the water was held in unpolished pottery to keep it cold. The Mesopotamians also used the pottery to trade for food, jewelry, and clothes. The pottery was made from clay and mud from the ground. The Mesopotamians used many tools, but the most important was the hand. Their pottery was used for trade, storage, and of course beauty.

I learned so much as I was researching Mesopotamian pottery. Before I started researching, I thought that the pottery was just used for beauty and wealth. I think my research went very well. The only thing that I wish I could change is for me to find more resources. I also learned that to show wealth the Mesopotamians buried their pottery with them once they died. Even though I only had two resources, I got lots of information. I’m glad I picked this topic because I had lots of fun while researching this and making the physical project.

I liked your conclusion, and I didn’t know that they put water in unpolished pottery to keep it cold. Or that they used it to trade it clothes. I thought that only rich people had it to. I learned a lot about pottery and it’s use in ancient Mesopotamian. You did a really good job answering your question. I would like to learn even more about pottery.

Wow Meg! That was great! I didn’t think of writing about my physical project. Speaking of you learned a lot, I learned a lot too! I liked the information in the second paragraph. I learned most of my info. in the first paragraph though. I like the reason you chose your essential question. I think you did a great job.
