6th Grade MacBook Airs

Written on May 15, 2012 – 8:48 am | by melki1213

I am very exited for the MacBook Airs next year. They will be very helpful. They will always be right there so I can grab it instead of having to get up and walk over to the other side of the room or going out in the hall. These will be very cool and will make me feel more important. I feel that I will take good care of my Mac and use it wisely. This will be a great experience and I am sure I will love the Macs. this shows how much responsibility the 6th Graders have. I am sure theses Macs will be awesome! I am going to love them!

Why Elementry Schools shouldn’t have Homework

Written on April 23, 2012 – 12:53 pm | by melki1213

I think that elementary schools shouldn’t have homework. First, children should take time to play.   Letting your brain breathe instead of pressuring your brain to think is important. Also, children should let their brains enjoy the beauty and fresh air.  If you have a lot of homework to do you mostly just stare at words on the paper for the majority of the afternoon instead of having more variety to stimulate your brain. Lastly, children should get to enjoy life and all the things it has to offer. If kids are doing homework all the time, kids have less time for family, friendships, sports, and music. That is why elementary schools shouldn’t have homework.

Some people might disagree. Faculty might disagree because they say it helps us learn the subject more effectively. I still believe in my opinion because sometimes I don’t understand the homework on my own. Some might still disagree because they say homework builds discipline. Children can learn discipline in other ways as well, like through sports. Also, some people would disagree because it gives kids practice working through independent problems on their own in the real world. However sometimes I get frustrated with the difficult homework and give up on it. This is why some might disagree, but I still think that elementary kids should not have homework.

Graceland!

This weekend I went to Graceland. Graceland is Elvis Presly’s house! It was so exiting to find that he has a sense of stile just like mine! A sort of crazy style! I was so exited to even set foot on the ground of his yard! When I went inside I expected a formal house, but instead I found crazy rooms! One room was completely covered in old-fashioned rugs! Another was all mirrors, one staircase room was covered from ceiling to floor in bright green fuzzy carpet! It was so cool! This is an experience that I will never forget!

Photo Journalism

The 34-year-old Casares spent nearly ten months in South America, part of his ongoing project to photograph indigenous cultures. After trekking to a remote village in the Peruvan Amazon, he documented this Mayoruna woman resting in a hammock after gathering cassava, her face adorned with the traditional piercings and tattoos of her tribe.

My picture was about a lady who has traditional piercings and tattoos.  The reason why I was interested in this picture is because when I flipped the page I look at a woman with tattoos and sticks on her face. I wonder, what is going on here! I marked this page and read the caption. Once I have read it I am very interested. I found that the sticks in her face are actually traditional piercings and the tattoos are traditional also. When I look at this picture I feel surprised and also a little scared and I wonder why she would do that. I also wonder what she is doing I find out that she is sitting in a hammock.

My favorite character from The Liberation of Gabiel King

Written on March 1, 2012 – 2:34 pm | by melki1213

My favorite character is Frita. She is a brave, smart girl who isn’t afraid to put up a fight if she needs to. She is my favorite character because she is kind of like me. She relates to me because she has brave and out-going spirit and she helps friends when she needs to and will stick up for her friends. She fights against bullys, and isn’t afraid of anything. I consider my self a lot of those.I am glad to be a Frita. I hope you all are Fritas too.

Watermelon seed-spiting contest

Written on December 23, 2011 – 5:25 pm | by melki1213

Once I went to Indiana to visit my grandparents and we went to the state fair. It was very fun, but we got hungry after a while, so we went  into a lithe food court and there was going to be a watermelon seed-spiting contest! I wanted to be in it so I signed up. I waited until all the little kids were gone, and then it was time for my age-group. I was about 6th in line so I had to wait for my turn. I was so excited! “Next up, Melissa Kight.” Wow! It was my turn! I took the seed, put it in my mouth, and spit!!!!!!  The seed went flying in the air and went really far! I was in first place!! I went back to sit down at my seat. “Good job!” my mom said. Everyone else went, and I was still in first place! It was down to the last two people. The first one spit. Oh no! He got further than me! So did the second! Oh well, I still got in third! I got a white third place ribbon and a pink participation ribbon, and the competition was over.

Christmas Break

Hello! I’m having the best time ever! I am so glad it’s Christmas break! It’s great to be away from school, but I miss my friends and my teachers also. I know it sounds crazy, but I miss school almost! If you think about it school is very fun sometimes and we are very lucky to go to a school like Trinity. Trinity is a great place and we should appreciate it. Without it, where would we be?

I think that my part is okay, but I wish I got a bigger part. Congrats to Anna Kate! Nice job on getting Marie! I am an Arabian Dancer, with Sasha, Lele, and Meg. Some people might disagree, but I think the  Nutcracker is just about having fun. What do you think? Do you like you part? You can tell me. I give a thanks to Mrs. Vreeland and Mrs. Tames for giving me a good part! See you next time!

If I could fly…

Written on November 2, 2011 – 8:43 pm | by melki1213

If I could fly, I would do it in all of my spare time. It would make me feel free like a bird. I can imagine how it would feel for my spirit to lift, light as a feather, as I took flight. Sure, call it a power, thats’s why it would be so magical. Feeling the wind through my hair and on my face…. wow, I can imagine it so vividly.I could go from place to place, all around the world! I wish I could fly so bad, that sometimes I even try to. That sounds really weird, but, I’m a weird girl! Sometimes, being able to fly is my birthday wish. I probably shouldn’t tell you that, because then it might not come true after I tell you, but I can wish for it many other ways. What do you wish you could do/have? (super strength, flying, teleporting, shrinking, growing, force-fields, ect.)  You can tell me in person or in comments, or you don’t have to tell me at all, but  I’d love to know!
