First World Problems
In class today we watched this video.
The first time I saw this rap video, made by a teenager, I felt ashamed and humbled. Many of the “problems” he was rapping about are funny, but then I think about how this can look like a typical day for me. Yuck! How many times am I frustrated because I do not have my power cord and my lap top battery is about to run out? How many times do I find myself really annoyed or angry about silly things, that are just simply first world problems?
I remember the first couple of weeks after my trip to Zimbabwe, I found myself taking nothing for granted. Every hot shower, ice cold Diet Coke, full grocery store, and drive through everything, was a reminder of what the people in Zimbabwe did not have. Now, I do not think anything about grabbing a Diet Coke or a hot shower whenever I feel like it.
This video reminded me this week to be thankful for all the opportunities I am given, just living in the first world. It also made me think, what can I do to help the third world?
What about you? What are your thoughts or reactions after listening to the rap?

Kate, I agree with you. It upsets me too. How do you think we can change this? What can we do as people living in the first world?

Wow, your right Mrs Walker we should all be grateful for what we have because in some places like in Atlanta and all over the world people dont have what we have like apple computers or TV’s or evean homes to live in or drinkable water. And were all selfish we just want want want more and more and we all get mad when thing don’t go are way. So this week/year i’m going to be grateful for what I have and be less greedy and I hope other people will to. Nice work Mrs. Walker!

This also made me really sad because it makes me think of how little others have and how much I have. I have so much and I still complain. I should be very thankful for what I have and I am going to seriously re-think the next time I complain. I’ll say to myself, Is this something silly that I can live without? Some people don’t have what I do and they still live. I should only complain about the things that are so important that I cannot live without.

Miss Walker, you blog had many comparisons in it which helped me see the picture that you drew.Like Madeline’s, we have so much and we still complain and want more. That seems so spoiled, which it is! Miss Walker, I agree with your blog! You painted a very vivid picture for me,thanks!

Miss Walker, I feel the same way. It feels like we take alot for granted. Like you said every hot sower we take, every trip to the grocery store, every hot meal we eat, we don’t even stop to think about the people who don’t have these things. I wish I could go see these third worlds for real to experience wat it is like. I have one question though, is there such ting as a second world? Geat blog post Miss Walker!

That video makes you look like you want everything how bout those kids who don’t have pillows, sheets and tons of other things. I feel so bad that we want everything and people who have nothing think it is a great life. Your right miss Walker it was funny at first and then I realized what we look like.

That video really makes you think about the silly things we get upset about. Like I do sometimes get upset about having to change the batteries, because of that video I realized how stupid that is.

Wow Miss Walker! That made me realize how lucky we are to have all the things that we have today. If you think about all the other people in the world and how they want all of the things that we have, it makes us look selfish. Once we get something we want more and more of it or something else.

You guys are right people in other places are a lot less fortunate than us and it’s just really sad. But other than that I have chores to do that can be tedious but some of other countries chores are to survive. Now when I go to the doctor and I don’t want to I remember that they probably would have done a lot of things just to get one check-up or shot.

I feel really thankful for what I have becuase other people might not have anything compared to what I do. like Christopher I have many chores but others have a lot more than I do and the chores that they have are a lot more serious. Some people might give their lives for their children to have just one slice of bread to eat. That just shows how lucky we are.

Josh, I am very thankful for your honesty and your comment. I also love that you read other people’s comments, not just my blog post.

That video was funny. It reminded me of my brother. I have lots of chores like Josh and Christopher and I did not notice that I really have little things to do around the house. Lots of kids have to do much more than me. That makes me thankful for all the things that we have and that we get to put them away, or that we have a wonderful back yard and we get to mow it and if you do not want to get up because of school think about the teachers that get up even earlier to spend their day teaching you.
