Literacy Response

Uncategorized May 17th, 2012

In class right now we are reading A Single Shard. I predict that Min’s single shard is going to be good enough for the emissary in Songdo, but, I also think that if Tree-ear doesn’t get there soon enough that the emissary will not want to give him a commission because the style has already spread. I think this first, because Min is a much better potter than Kang and his work will be ten times better than Kang’s. Second, because the only reason that Kang got even a limited commission is because his new style and now that Min has used that style he will be far more superior to Kang than before. The only reason that I think Min would not get a royal commission is because Tree-ear did not get the shard there before the emissary leaves.

You Should Always Have Someone that You can Talk to About Anything

You Should Always Have Someone that You can Talk to About Anything

This I Believe

I believe that you should always have someone that you can talk to about anything. This year something happened where I made a bad decision at school and I felt really really bad about it but, I didn’t want to tell anybody about what happened, especially my mom because I was scared to death that she would yell and scream at me. For the rest of the day I felt really down and was very worried about how mad my mom would be at me and how all my friends would look at me.

After school that day I went to tennis but wasn’t really focused I came back and had dinner with my mom at my country club. While we are eating one of my friends that was involved comes and sits down at the table beside us, okay let’s pause. Right now I am so nervous because I know that his parents know what happened at school because they are looking at me like I am stupid. Which is not making me feel any better. Once we got home I told my mom what had happened and to my surprise she wasn’t nearly as mad at me as I thought. But of course, she wasn’t the happy about it. So she said, “Well, I am glad you told Me.” and I replied, “I am too.” Even though I hadn’t wanted to tell my mom about what had happened this made me feel a ton better.

If I were to close my eyes right now and think about how I felt that day, I would feel very good because that was the day when I realized that I could talk to my mom about anything. I would also feel bad because I made a bad decision. Before this ever happened I didn’t really think much about talking to my mom about what happened at school that day but now I always tell her what happened at school because it makes me feel better. Now it is very important to me that I can talk to my mom about anything. This I believe.

Responding to Literature

Uncategorized May 9th, 2012

So far during this book I think the theme is perseverance. There are many reasons why I think this and how I can support it. First, I think perseverance is a theme because even though that Min has not let Tree-ear use the potting wheel Tree-ear is still working for Min and Hoping that he will show him how to work it. Second, I think there is perseverance when even though Tree-ear wants to eat  all the food that Min’s wife gives him he perseveres and doesn’t let greed take over him.

MacBook Airs!!

Uncategorized May 8th, 2012

I wish I could get a mac at the school I am going to next year for several reasons. First, I want to because they are so much faster than the PC that the sixth graders have this year. Second, I am so much more comfortable with a mac rather than a PC because I have one at home. Also, macs are much better than PCs because their desktop looks much better and is much easier to customize. Next, as I learned today you can have a windows 7 desktop on the mac using a program called Parallels Desktop. I am so mad that the school I am going to next year isn’t even giving us computers. They would really help my learning because I do most of my school work now on a computer.

John, a young boy from Cuba dances in the rain during a tropical shower in a street of Havana, Cuba on July 19, 2010.

I thought that this picture was emotional because this little child that appears to have nothing is having so much fun just by playing around in the rain. It is also emotional because in a country like Cuba there is not much to be laughing about. Enjoying the storm, a boy dances in a downspout’s downpour along a narrow street in Old Havana-a centuries old part of the that has been named a UNESCO World heritage site.

Did you know that if you were born on U.S soil no matter what you are a citizen? I think this is a good law in some ways but mostly a very bad law. First, I think this is a bad law because if people wanted their children to be a citizen of this country then they just had to come here and have their baby on U.S soil. This is also the case for illegal immigrants if they wanted their children to be able to live in the U.S, this would also increase the chance of the parents being able to live in the U.S.

Most people would probably say that this is a good law with a few loopholes. Those loopholes being, that just having a baby in the U.S would increase the chance of the parents being able to become citizens here because they children could invite the parents over after they had grown up. Overall I think this is a law that needs to be worded better and paid attention to.

Parcoes

Uncategorized March 1st, 2012

Today during Values the teachers told us that we were making parcoes to help improve our teamwork. We would have 5 work periods and 5 planning periods and they would all last 3 minutes, the goal was to make the most parcoes. Now, you might be wondering “What are parcoes?” Parcoes are a made up product that have to be 5 inches by three inches of regular white paper and then a 1 inch by 1 inch red square paper clipped to the top right corner, and last but not least you had to draw a 1 inch thick blue colored line on the left. So, what we did in our group was we made an assembly line. Two people cut and three people drew and one person paper clipped the red squares. Also, what made it fun is that after we made the parcoes we had to get them checked by a teacher and they could be deposited in the bank if they were correct or we could go to the market and buy materials like paper and paperclips or we could by scissors, pencils or rulers but they all cost parcoes. Some like the paper cost 5 parcoes which is a lot. Our team’s strategy was to fold the paper in half and then cut the paper this worked would have worked well but if you cut it wrong you waste a lot of paper. Also I think we could have done better if the teachers had let something that is one eighth of an inch off that they would let it slide. I think that this was a great idea by the teachers. The game was very interesting and different than the usual values class.
